The mechanical stress on the surfaces of test specimens is induced by the mutual interaction of two different material surfaces, with one material surface typically being abrasive sandpaper, and is subsequently determined and analyzed.
DIN Abrasion Tester – Test Method:
- The specimen is fixed to the underside of the specimen holder of the NIP-EAT2800 abrasion tester.
- The specimen holder exerts a specific pressure on the specimen by means of the test weight and simultaneously performs a frictional forward movement on the sandpaper, which is fixed to the rotating cylindrical drum.
- The frictional forward movement is carried out over a specific and predetermined length along the cylinder drum.
- Following the frictional forward movement, the weight wear, also referred to as material loss, is determined using a precision balance.
- The relative volume wear of the test specimen is calculated according to the specific gravity of the test specimen and taking into account the correction coefficient.
- The extent of the material loss serves to evaluate the abrasion resistance of the specimen.
