The DIN ISO 4649 abrasion material loss testing device is used to reliably and efficiently determine the material loss and wear behavior of test specimen surfaces through targeted, specified and repeatable mechanical abrasion stress.
The mechanical stress on the surfaces of test specimens is induced by the mutual interaction of two different material surfaces, one material surface usually being abrasive sandpaper, and then determined and analyzed.
DIN abrasion tester – test method:
- The test specimen is fixed on the underside of the test specimen holder of the abrasion tester NIP-EAT2800.
- The specimen holder exerts a certain pressure on the specimen using the test weight and at the same time carries out a frictional forward movement on the sandpaper, which is fixed on the rotating cylinder drum.
- The frictional forward movement is carried out over a specific and fixed length along the cylinder drum.
- After the frictional forward movement, the weight wear, also known as material loss, is determined using a precision balance.
- The relative volumetric wear of the specimen is calculated according to the specific gravity of the specimen and taking into account the correction coefficient.
- The extent of material loss is used to evaluate the abrasion resistance of the test specimen.
