NanoTech Industrial Products Bulk Density ISO R60 with ISO R60 funnel is a precise density meter for determining the Flow Behavior and the apparent density of molding compounds, powders and powder-like samples including plastics.

This professional ISO R60 testing apparatus to determine the Bulk Density of Powders combines an ergonomic design with a sturdy, high-quality stainless steel construction, paired with a precision-machined ISO R60 funnel with a filling opening diameter of 56mm and an outlet opening diameter of 33mm, a Density cup of 100 cm³, high measurement accuracy and high precision, user-friendly density measurement, user-friendly sample handling, extensive accessories, reliable quality, ergonomic design, and much more.

A digital precision scale suitable for laboratory use is available as an optional accessory.

Bulk density test setup ISO R60 – Determination of bulk density:

 

The ISO R60 method is used to determine the Bulk density of metallic powders under defined conditions of free fall. It describes how a powder falls through a standardized funnel opening into a calibrated measuring beaker to determine the Volume occupancy under the influence of gravity to determine reproducibly.

 

Test setup

The Bulk density test setup NIP-BDM1800R60 is designed according to ISO R60 and consists of:

      • Funnel assembly: stainless steel funnel with 25 mm outlet opening and 60° cone angle, precision turned for consistent powder flow.

      • Measuring cup: Cylindrical stainless steel container with 25 cm³ volume, calibrated internally to ISO tolerances.

      • Tripod frame: Rigid vertical alignment between funnel and cup ensures a centered outlet.

      • Base plate: With leveling feet for precise horizontal alignment.

      • Analytical balance: Resolution ± 0.01 g.

      • Tools: Spatula, brush and shovel for sample handling and cleaning.

 

Operating principle

The powder flows under its own weight through the funnel into the measuring beaker. The mass of the powder that completely fills the known volume is weighed. The mass-to-volume ratio gives the Bulk density in g/cm³.

 

Test procedure

1. Preparing the device

      • Clean and dry the bulk density test setup NIP-BDM1800R60.

      • Align precisely using a spirit level.

      • Ensure that the funnel outlet is positioned centrally above the cup.

2. Sample conditioning

      • Bring the powder to laboratory room temperature (approx. 23 ± 2 °C).

      • Homogenize without changing particle size or moisture content.

3. Filling the funnel

      • Close the funnel outlet with the sealing plate.

      • Fill with powder to just below the rim.

      • Do not allow vibration or compression.

4. Introduction of the river

      • Quickly remove the sealing plate and allow the powder to flow out freely.

      • No shaking or movement of the structure during the river.

      • Wait until the river completely stops flowing.

5. Leveling off the cup

      • Using a straight edge, wipe off excess powder flush with the rim of the cup.

      • Smooth movement without compacting the powder.

6. Weighing

      • Weigh the filled beaker on the scale (± 0.01 g).

      • Subtract the empty weight of the cup to obtain the net mass.

7. Calculation

Bulk density (g/cm³) = Net mass (g) / 25 cm³
 

Report results to three significant figures.

8. Repeatability

      • Perform at least three measurements.

      • Deviation between results ≤ ± 1 %.
